BRITISH 1907 PATTERN SIAMESE (THAILAND) CONTRACT BAYONET
This is a British 1907 pattern bayonet which was part of a contract of 10,000 SMLE rifles and bayonets supplied to Siam in 1920 by B.S.A.. The bayonets were ex-service models with the original markings ground off and re- finished with a Royal ‘Wild Tiger Corps’ emblem and script which included the rifle number. The Wild Tiger Corps were the personal bodyguard of King Rame VI who only reigned for 1919 to 1925 and due to the low original issue these bayonet have become quite scarce. Some bayonet scabbards were altered by replacing the original leather body with sheet steel due to the leather rotting in the climate with this example is one of those . See Skennerton Item B13 on Page 381.
