BOWIE KNIFE CIRCA 1880 BY WILKINSON

This is an excellent and rarely seen Bowie knife by Wilkinson. Dating from around 1880 it has a bright blade with a few scratches. The blade has the earlier 'WILKINSON PALL MALL LONDON' acid etched on the base of the blade. The knife measures 380mm overall with a blade length of 250mm. The blade has clip point associated with all Bowie knives. The wooden handle has a chip to it as shown in the images that can easily be repaired.

The knife comes with its original leather scabbard which is also in good condition and contains a belt loop. Some people have called this style of knife as a sportsmans knife by Wilkinson however my research has found that the couple of examples I have managed to see of Sportsmens knife do not have a Bowie clip point shape to the blade.

Wilkinson did sell some Bowie knifes to the Confederates during the US Civil War.

This is a rare knife and a good item for the Bowie collector
