    WW2 GERMAN ME BF-110 BATTLE OF BRITAIN CRASH RELICS

    HISTORY

    Messerschmitt BF110 was serving with the German Luftwaffe in ZG76 and was based in occuoied Northern France. In the summer of 1940 the Battle of Britain was being fought over Southern England and on the 15th August 1940 Junker JU88 bombers attacked airfields at Worthy Down and Middle Wallop, their fighter escorts were Me 110's from ZG76. As they withdrew from the attack they were engaged by Spitfires of 609 Squadron and Hurricanes of 249 Squadron. In the combat that followed the Messerschmitt was hit at 12,000 feet and dived into the ground crashing at Slackstead near Romsey in Hampshire. The wreckage was recovered by aviation archeologists in July 1993 and is now on display at Southampton Hall of Aviation.
