WW1 TURKISH/OTTOMAN EMPIRE GALLIPOLI STAR BY GERMAN MAKER WERNER
Gallipoli Stars Were awarded to the armed forces of Turkey during WW1 and also to the armed forces of Germany and Austria that served in Support of the Turkish Forces both in Turkey (Gallipoli) and the Middle East. The badges were made both in Turkey and in Germany. The Turkish badges are regarded as inferior quality with painted finishes whilst the German made badges are regarded as higher quality with enamel finishes and were made by famous German badge makers such as BB&Co, Godet and J.H. Werner. BB&Co are the most commonly encountered with Godet and Werner being much rarer.
This Gallipoli Star is made by J.H. WERNER BERLIN and is maker marked on the reverse. J.H. Werner badges were also larger than the most common issued badges as shown in the images for comparison.
