US CIVIL WAR HEAVY CAVALRY SWORD BY AMES 1862
Rare example of the antebellum “Old Wrist-breaker” pattern of heavy cavalry sword as made by Ames Manufacturing, Cabotville, Massachusetts in 1862. This swords Civil War use and examples are not easy to find. This one is missing the original wire wrap but the grip leather is in fine condition overall. Original scabbard. Bright curved blade. Clear makers marks and dated 1862 with an issue number stamped to the handle.
