GERMAN CAPTURED 1866 FRENCH YATAGHAN BAYONET
During the Franco/Prussian war of 1870 the Germans captured many French bayonets and used them for themselves. They had also made the bayonet blades for the French Army prior to the Franco/Prussian war who then added their own parts and fittings.
This bayonet could be either of the above as a French made 1866 Yataghan bayonet had the French maker engraved on the spine of the bayonet which this one does not have identifying it as the above.
The bayonet is in excellent condition with a bright blade with some issue stamps as shown in the images.
