WW1 PERIOD GERMAN BOOT KNIFE
HISTORY
The Trench knife during WW1 made a late appearance as part of the combat equipment of the allied troops, however it was a different story for their German soldier adversary as these knives were already used by pre-war Lumberjacks, hunters and civilians as part of their daily lives and it was quite natural that these soldiers took their own personal knives with them to war giving them the advantage in hand to hand combat during trench warfare. The German Army also issued some soldiers with combat knives. This is clearly outlined in the reference book "German Combat Knives 1914-1945" by Christian Mery.
ITEM DESCRIPTION
This knife is a typical example of the type of civilian knives the German soldier took to war with him. Stag handled with White metal fittings and has its original scabbard. Showing the normal signs of wear this is a good example.
