    HISTORY

    The Royal Scots Fusiliers, historically designated as the 21st Regiment of Foot, was raised in 1678 by Charles Erskine, 5th Earl of Mar. Key milestones include serving under the Duke of Marlborough in the War of the Spanish Succession, fighting in the Crimean War, and finally amalgamating in 1959.

    Major Campaigns and Deployments

    • Marlborough's Campaigns (1702–1712): Fought with distinction at major battles including Blenheim (1704), Ramillies (1706), Oudenarde (1708), and Malplaquet (1709). 
    • Australian Service (1832–1833): Sailed to Australia to guard convicts, stationed in Tasmania and Western Australia (including Perth). 
    • Crimean War (1854–1855): Participated in key engagements like the Alma, Inkerman, and the grueling Siege of Sevastopol. 
    • 20th Century Conflicts: Raised multiple battalions during World War I (1914–1918) serving on the Western Front and Gallipoli, and fought across various theaters in World War II (1939–1945). 

    ITEM DESCRIPTION

    A very fine, and exceptionally rare Royal Scots Fusiliers special regimental 1822 pattern officers sword.

    Marked at the ricasso with the retailers details "HENRY WILKINSON PALL MALL LONDON". Excellent clean blade with Regimental etching to both sides of the blade. Wilkinson issue number to the spine of the blade 59604. The blade has a single central fuller to both sides.

    The brass hilt carries the distinctive flaming grenade badge bearing the regimental number "21" surmounted by thistles. The banners above and below read "Royal Scots Fusiliers" and the Latin motto "Nemo Me Impune Lacessit". The scabbard is covered in Black leather with brass fittings.

    The shagreen grip is in very good condition . The grip is bound with its original brass wire and the leather buffer is still present.

    Overall this is an exceptionally nice sword that is considered rare.
