1882 FRENCH INFANTRY OFFICERS SWORD BY KLINGENTHAL
HISTORY
- Klingenthal: This was a historical French arms manufacturer located near Strasbourg, whose name means "Valley of Blades" in German. Klingenthal was the primary French government factory for arms production for a time.
- German production: The sword is described as being "German-made," which can be confusing. However, Klingenthal was an area with German roots, and historical records show the Klingenthal factory had a German influence on its production.
- Primary use: The 1882 model was primarily a thrusting sword, designed for thrusting rather than slashing.
- Service life: The sword was used from the late 19th century through World War I, and officially decommissioned in 1825.
