Why No Decal Helmets Exist
- Factory Production Changes: On October 10, 1943, the German high command ordered the complete removal and discontinuation of factory-applied decals on combat helmets to speed up production and reduce visibility in the field.
- Late-War Models: Most World War II German M42 helmets—and many late-war M40 helmets—left the factories completely unadorned without decals.
- Field Removal: Earlier helmets (like the M35 or early M40) originally had double or single decals, but soldiers or armorers often scraped or painted over them in compliance with mid-to-late war camouflage and anti-visibility directives.
ITEM DESCRIPTION
This is an exceptionally nice M35 German combat helmet that has had the decals removed in line with the 1943 German army ruling on the discontinuation of the use of decals and has been period overpainted. Liner complete and chinstrap present. Maker marked Q for Quist and size 64 shell. Batch number on the rear under the owners painted name.
