Why No Decal Helmets Exist
- Factory Production Changes: On October 10, 1943, the German high command ordered the complete removal and discontinuation of factory-applied decals on combat helmets to speed up production and reduce visibility in the field.
- Late-War Models: Most World War II German M42 helmets—and many late-war M40 helmets—left the factories completely unadorned without decals.
- Field Removal: Earlier helmets (like the M35 or early M40) originally had double or single decals, but soldiers or armorers often scraped or painted over them in compliance with mid-to-late war camouflage and anti-visibility directives.

This helmet has definitely seen combat use, original paint, decals removed in line with the German High Command 1943 order for the removal of decals. Worn liner as shown in the images. Partial remains of the chinstrap. Maker stamped Q for Quist size 64 shell. Batch number 733. original owners name to the rear skirt.
