WW2 GERMAN ARMY KUBAN SLEEVE SHIELD

    HISTORY

The Kuban Shield (Kubanschild) was a World War II German military campaign decoration. Instituted by Adolf Hitler on 21 September 1943, it was awarded to Wehrmacht forces who engaged in the fierce defensive battles at the Kuban bridgehead in the Soviet Union between February and October 1943.

    Core Purpose & Background

The shield was created to honour the German, Romanian, and auxiliary forces who successfully held a defensive pocket on the Taman Peninsula. This bridgehead was vital to securing a retreat path from the Caucasus. It was the last official campaign shield to be manufactured and widely distributed during the war.
