WW1 TURKISH PRODUCED GALLIPOLI STAR
All German soldiers who fought with the Turkish Army were entitled to the Turkish star award. They came in two types a painted background version for the lower ranks and a enameled version for officers. Some of the enameled versions were made in Germany and some were produced in Turkey, The German made ones had the makers marks to the rear with BB&Co being the most popular for the officers enamelled version, Turkish made enamelled officers stars with no makers marks. All of the painted versions don't have a makers mark on them leading me to presume they were Turkish made and of poorer quality.
This star is an enamel officers type with no makers mark to the back identifying it as a Turkish made variety. Enamel is in excellent condition and it would be hard to find a better example of a Turkish made star.
