WW1 GERMAN IRON CROSS FIRST CLASS. VON HADEIN SW AFRICA

WW1 German Iron Cross First Class. period engraved to the back 'Hptm Fr. V. Hadein 1.4.15

I have done some minor research which shows that Von Hadein led a recon Section during the war in German South West Africa and played a prominent part in supporting South African rebel forces against the British Commonwealth forces. He was involved in the German attack on Kakamas which was the only invasion of a British Commonwealth town by German forces in the First World War.

Von Hadein returned to Germany in 1919 which is when his Iron Cross was issued. There is a heap of research on him and his family with interesting conections to the German FreiKorps and Himmlers staff. during WW2. It is also interesting to know that the original issue certificates for Von Hadeins medals are owned by a collector in Europe.
