WW1/2 GERMAN KS98 DRESS BAYONET WITH RARE BLACK FITTINGS.
There are a few patterns of thought as to why a few of these bayonets were issued with black fittings from my research on the website.
First on is that at the end of WW1 German Officers were ordered to or given the option to wear a sidearm with blackened fittings to reduce the amount of glare and to cease using the sword.
The second one is that they were issued during the Weimar period.
Witch ever is correct these bayonets are very uncommon and indeed a rarity.
Maker marked to Eikhorn with the back to back squirels logo on the blade.
This example is in good condition with a bright blade and comes with its original frog.
