WW2 GERMAN ARMY OFFICERS DAGGER WITH ORIGINAL HANGERS AND PORTPEE
This dagger remains in an untouched condition and is complete with its original hangers and Portpee. Nice bright blade clearly marked to the maker Eikhorn. The cross guard has a period engraving of the initials CG and the date of May 1945 which is the month and year that the Nazis surrendered and WW2 ended. The meaning of the engraving has two possibilities, the first is that the German Officer who owned the dagger has had it engraved to commemorate the end of the war, the other being that an allied soldier or officer had souvenired the dagger and at the end of the war had it engraved as a momento, either way it a nice personalised touch that tells a story.
