WW1 GERMAN 98/05 BUTCHER BAYONET EARLY TYPE BY RARE MAKER J. CORTS AND SOHN

This 98/05 rare German 'Butcher' bayonet is the very first pattern early model with the part muzzle ring and without the flash guard to the spine of the handle. The bayonet has 9 groove wooden grips which are secured with two bolts. The hilt has the 2nd patter. It has a push button spring release which operates as it should. The single edged polished steel blade has a very rare maker's stamp on the ricasso ‘J.Corts Sohn Remscheid’ with trademark. The blade measures 14 1/2" long, it gradually widens from being 1" wide at the ricasso to just over 1 1/4" wide at its widest point and is in excellent condition showing hardly any use. The back edge of the blade is stamped with small inspection mark 'W Crown'. The pommel has a two small inspection stamps. Its original steel scabbard with frog stud is undamaged.

Whilst there are WW1 Butcher bayonets that are cheaper than this one around this example is a very rare 1st type example by a rare maker.
