ISLAMIC ARABIC FLINTLOCK RIFLE WITH ORNATE DAMASCUS BARREL

    HISTORY

Many people would call this rifle a Jezail which is a term given to a lot of this style of the Arabic Musket. The term Jezail when interpreted means 'Long Barrels' and were primarily used in the First and Second Anglo Afghan wars by Pashtuns and Arghani's, The stocks were handmade and sometimes ornately decorated, featuring a distinctive curve which is not seen in the stocks of other muskets. The function of this curve is debated. With this in mind the rifle offered today is an Islamic Arabic rifle.

    ITEM DESCRIPTION

This Musket rifle  did not belong to a common camel or horse riding Arab tribesman. It has some very distinctive features that shows that it was hand made to a high standard for someone that was willing to pay for quality such as a tribal leader. The lock is a work of art which is engraved and is very detailed, the  lock is still functional, the flint is still present. The Barrel is a smooth bore, it is heavily engraved with Silver highlights on a Damascus barrel.

The stock is Walnut and there is a crack evident (as shown in images supplied) but the stock is very stable. The barrel wood is attached by six Brass barrel bands.

Islamic Arabic Musket Rifles are seen for sale every now and then, however, s stated this Musket Rifle is not the 'common of the garden' variety and would have been very expensive at the time.

This is a great wall hanger and talking point for the office or man cave.
