Nice uniform grouping consisting of a Service dress and trousers and a Mess Dress to a Major John Laurie evans in the British Paratroopers Regiment, research has shown the following;
John Laurie Evans was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant on the 27 April 1963;
Served in the R.A.E.C, November 1967;
Lieutenant in the Parachute Regiment, October 1968,Captain April 1969, Major December 1974.
Postings were GSO2 Army/Air Appts HQ 38 Gp RAF. He had two staff jobs and was @IC of Depot Para and CO of the Parachute Course in Brize Norton. Evans had served in Northern Ireland and 3 years in Oman as @IC of a Baluch Battalion (Southern Regiment), he was there for the end of the war (which reached its climax with operation Hashish Marooh (burning Grass) and for the first troubled year of the following peace. The Southern Regiment served in the Dhofar Province.
When he resigned his commission he read theology at Oxford and was ordained in Wells Cathedral and for a few years served as an ACF Chaplain on the Isle of Man and in Oxfordshire. This is supported by a shirt that is included in this group that has the Padres Crosses on the collar.
