WW2 US/AUSTRALIAN FIGHTING KNIFE BY WHITTINGSLOWE.

    Background

During WW2 US soldiers based in Australia and fighting in the pacific campaign were issued with locally made fighting knives from Australian knife makers such as Whiitingslowe and Gregsteel and also the New Zealand cutlery co in NZ, amongst others, due to a shortage amongst the US troops. Australian soldiers were also issued fighting knives by the same makers.

    Item Description

A very nice fighting knife here, with the original scabbard, which is stamped with an S and a broad arrow to the reverse. The knife is stamped US 1944 on the guard on one side and Whittingslowe on the other. Under the guard in one side it is stamped with a broad arrow and an I for inspected. The knife shows honest wear, and has a small knick to the edge at 9cm down - you should be able to see this in the photos. The blade measures 142mm long and overall length is 273mm. The blade is very sharp.
