  • WW2 JAPANESE OFFICERS SAMURAI SWORD WITH SURRENDER TAG AND SIGNED TANG.-SOLD EW971

WW2 JAPANESE OFFICERS SAMURAI SWORD WITH SURRENDER TAG AND SIGNED TANG.

This WW2 Japanese officers sword was obviously surrendered to an Australian soldier due to its geographic location. There is the original surrender tag on the handle where the Officer wrote his name as he hoped to get it back after the war. The allies did not return them.

The scabbard on the sword has a couple of dings as shown in the images which is obviously due to combat use. The handle wrap is in good condition with all its spacers and washers present. It has a pierced Tsuba showing signs of quality.

The blade is in good condition but also showing signs of combat use and field wear as shown in the images. The tang is maker marked, the maker was MANO KUNIYASU who worked in the  Aichi prefecture the characters reads Bishu Ju Kuniyasu (Kiniyasu a resident of Bishi made this). He usually works his swords with a straight temper line which this sword has. There is not an Army issue stamp present which confirms that this blade was hand made for the family which is another sign of quality.

Great opportunity to purchase a WW2 Officers sword with a surrender tag still present and hand made blade.
