WW2 AUSTRALIAN ISSUED BILLHOOK MACHETE BY MARSDEN

    Reference:

Australian & New Zealand Cutlers and Cutlery 1788-1988 by Keith M. Spencer & John Renton-Spencer

A number of billhooks have turned up bearing Australian Military markings and devoid of any makers marks (sterile) appearing on the blade or handle. The only markings to be found are a D^D stamped on the wooden handles. They were known to be issued to troops in WW2 training in the Atherton Tablelands region of Queensland. The only supplier of billhooks listed in the Commonwealth Gazette is Marsden of Sydney in 1942.

There were billhooks issued during WW1 to Australians but these bear makers stamps.

This billhook is sterile and bears the D^D stamped to the wood handle and is in exceptional condition.
