AMERICAN CIVIL WAR UNION 1851 PATTERN BELT, BUCKLE AND TIN OF ISSUE.
This is an 1851 pattern American Civil War Officers dress belt and buckle that comes with its original tin. The belt is leather backed brocade, the brocade is showing signs of wear and dis-colouration due to age, it may clean up well. All the brass keepers are present. The buckle has very nice detail and shows traces of the original gilding, there are no maker marks present. The belt comes in its black painted tin of issue with a makers tin label to the top for 'H.V.Allen & Co NEW YORK'. How this belt and buckle ended up in Western Australia I dont know but it is a nice piece of American Civil War history.
